Exterior Stone Cladding

Matching stone cladding in exterior home design

There are a lot of factors to consider when using stone cladding on the exterior of your home to ensure a look that adds to the overall design and landscape.

A well built and designed facade says a lot about your likes, choice and personality. Let your exteriors represent for your designer side as you get raw stone wall cladding at the facade. You can use it to one level and keep the remaining levels plain and usual.

Here's some tips to keep you on the right track:

1. Not everything is equal when it comes to balance. An Interior Designer will tell you that without the proper scale and proportion, balanced appearance is out the window. The Golden Ratio should be to match an area of brick cladding to stone, as well as the size of each individual piece. For example, trying to match the exact size of a brick to any type of stone will result in an unappealing look.

2. The exterior of your home should flow with the beauty of the landscape. For instance, if you wish to have contrasting stone cladding against a brick exterior, select a neutral or colour-coordinating tone as a blend. Never select a colour too bright and flashy. You can always add a touch of colour with a colorful front door instead should you wish.

3. Adding pizzazz to a home’s exterior can be done with a stone cladding to bring out the highlights of colour and texture that would otherwise go unnoticed. A couple of different colour tones and textures make for a rich, well-blended appearance. Using any more than 2 or 3 can run the risk of throwing off the aesthetic harmony.

These design techniques for exteriors will help to bring a modern and contemporary or traditional look to a new or existing house.
