It is important to recognize that Brazilian "slate" differs geologically from slates from other parts of the world. Brazilian slate is a sedimentary mudstone and is not a true metamorphic rock.
As such, Brazilian slate has no natural cleavage plain and tends to be more brittle than its Welsh or Spanish cousins.
It needs to be sawn rather then cut, and we insist that, in addition to double nail fixing, Brazilian slate is also fixed with hooks for additional security.
For these reasons, we offer it under our 'Commercial Range' but it is a good product and offers great value for money over its Spanish counterparts.
