LBS have been visiting the slate quarries in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil for over 20 years and we know were to source the best quality slate.
We have over 20 years experience in dealing with Brazilian slates and are convinced that the 5-7mm selection is the best grade available for roofing. Due to the geology of Brazilian slate, the thinner 4-6mm slates can be prone to breaking and the heavier 9m grades have been known to delaminate (as they are spiting along the bedding pain and not the cleavage plain). As such, we only offer the top grade 5-7mm.
Rio slates are generally flat and consistent and are relatively easy to use, making them popular with roofing contractors.
Due to its geology, these slates cannot be cut and need to be sawn. Also, we insist that the slates are hook fixed as well as nailed.
